COVER TREE – Chinesischer Wacholder (Juniperus
chinensis var. sargentii)

The impressive Shimpaku juniper gracing our cover is the work of Hiroaki Suzuki, son of the renowned bonsai master Shinji Suzuki. With this tree, the young bonsai artist won the Prime Minister’s Award at the 48th Sakufuten, Japan’s premier exhibition for professional bonsai artists, in 2022, firmly establishing himself among the country’s bonsai elite. This outstanding juniper was also exhibited at the 100th Kokufu-ten this year.
To accompany the cover feature, this issue includes six articles dedicated to the Chinese juniper, deservedly one of the most popular species in the bonsai world.
