COVER TREE – Satsuki Azalea (Rhododendron indicum ‘Kobainishiki’)

Our cover features a stunning two-toned satsuki azalea, a rare specimen of the ‘Kobainishiki’ variety, grown over a rock and carefully cultivated by Udo Fischer over the past 15 years. Satsuki azaleas are the flowering stars among bonsai in May and June. Frank Jesse‘s hawthorn also boasts a profusion of blossoms at this time of year, followed later by red berries in autumn with which the venerable old bonsai was exhibited at the 100th Kokufu-ten, as seen from page 60 onwards.
In this issue, you will find many useful seasonal care tips and some food for thought on adapting to climate change.
